How is eyelid surgery performed, and does the patient feel pain? Aging brings many problems together. If you haven’t taken good care of yourself, aging will become quite noticeable.

The first place where aging shows itself on the skin is usually around the eyes. The skin around your eyes quickly fills with lines, and your eyelids become heavier than before because the skin stretches and appears excessive. However, nowadays, thanks to eyelid aesthetics, people no longer need to worry about this.

These operations are performed on both men and women, helping them regain their former appearance and achieve a youthful, confident look without ever appearing unnatural. Eyelid surgery can take 1–3 hours, depending on whether the upper, lower, or both eyelids are operated on. The aim of aesthetic eyelid surgery is to remove excess fat and skin that develops structurally and over the years in the upper and lower eyelids, resulting in a more youthful appearance. These surgeries can be performed under general or local anesthesia, though general anesthesia is usually preferred for patient comfort.

Aging is not the only factor affecting eyelid structure; other factors include:

  • Genetic makeup
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Smoking
  • Sleep patterns

Surgery procedure:

  • Performed under local or general anesthesia
  • Duration: 1 to 3 hours
  • Incisions are made in the problematic area
  • Excess tissue or fat is removed or corrected
  • The area is closed
  • Ligaments and muscles are reconstructed
  • Excess fat and skin are gathered, and permanent sutures are placed

After the procedure, the patient’s appearance will be noticeably improved. The area is fully numbed, so the patient will not feel anything during the surgery. Swelling and bruising may occur for 1–2 days post-operation but can be alleviated with cold compresses. Mild redness in the eyes is normal after surgery. Most of the visible swelling will disappear within a week, allowing the patient to move their eyes comfortably and observe the changes from the operation. Doctor follow-ups during this period are very important.
