Gynecomastia Istanbul

Gynecomastia means abnormal breast enlargement in men. The word is derived from the combination of the Greek words gyne (woman) and mastos (breast).

Although the exact cause is not known, it is thought that there may be multiple reasons. It is generally considered to result from an imbalance in sex hormones. Gynecomastia observed in adolescent boys usually disappears within a few years in the majority of cases.

Although it does not pose any health risk, in rare cases it may be a sign of another condition that could threaten health. It often leads to social and psychological problems.

If the cause of gynecomastia can be identified, treatment can be applied accordingly. However, in many cases, treatment is surgical.

There are three main types: glandular, mixed, and lipomatous. In the glandular type, the enlargement is caused by actual breast tissue, while in the lipomatous type, it results from an increase in fat tissue. In the mixed type, there is both an increase in breast tissue and fat tissue.

The most suitable surgical treatment methods are liposuction and excision of the breast gland. These treatment methods vary depending on the clinical findings of the breast. In patients with an excess amount of fat tissue in the breast, good results are obtained with liposuction. In patients with both fat tissue excess and breast gland enlargement, the breast gland must also be removed in addition to liposuction. If there is also excess skin along with excess fat and gland tissue, the skin is removed as well. After surgery, bandaging is applied for 3 weeks, and the patient is called for monthly follow-ups.
